Decentralized Git Profiles

Over the years github.com grew from a startup to the de-facto place for checking activities by open source developers. The success of a job application or new admin privileges can depend on the github profile. This gives Github (owned by Microsoft) control over parts of developers' life that was not intended for a git service provider. Furthermore, github has the power to excluded users from the open source ecosystem as seen during the US sanctions against Iran.

Gitix tries to solve the social aspect of the centralized github. On gitix.org users can create a git profile that is not bound to one git service provider, that is not owned by a company but by the user secured by their Blockstack ID (or other decentralized identifiers in the future).

In the first version we have implemented features to create a social graph and to manage the git repositories. As Blockstack users can verify their github account, gitix automatically imports the public repositories on first login. More feature, like search, starring and git hosting will be added when they get crowd funded. The project is open source and follows the vision of blockstack and #cantbeevil to create apps that give back control to their users.
